The 68th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Ghana was today 6th March 2025, observed under the theme “reflect, review, reset.
As directed by the President, H. E. John Dramani Mahama in efforts to cut down cost, this year’s celebration was a modest one. The independence parade unlike before, was exclusively limited to selected primary and junior high schools within Damongo.
Despite the modesty, citizens from length and breath of Savannah Region trooped into the Damongo Town Park (Astroturf Park) to celebrate the anniversary.
Delivering the keynote address, the Savannah Regional minister, Hon. Salisu Bi-Awurobe emphasized the need for citizens to reflect on past events, review them, and reset ourselves into the future.
He admonished citizens to reflect on behavioral traits, culture, and way of governance to align with systemic progress and development of our motherland Ghana.
The Hon. Minister also encouraged students and pupils present to find inspiration in him as Regional Minister and the President of the Republic of Ghana whom together, were born and raised in the Savannah region but through perseverance and hardwork, have risen through the ranks and files to be where they are today.
Furthering his address, Hon. Bi-Awurobe admonished citizens to preserve customs and traditions of the Gonja Kingdom irrespective of one’s religion.
Ending his address, the Hon. Minister of Savannah Region took the opportunity to address the problem of access to pipe borne water within the Damongo enclave and it’s surrounding communities, assuring citizens of frantic efforts by the President to find a lasting solution to the challenge, a commitment evidenced by the appointment of a son of the land to head the Ghana Water Company.
