Damongo, Ghana – The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has finalized preparations for the 2024 Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES), a comprehensive nationwide census of businesses. Over 200 field officers, including 185 enumerators, 2 data monitors, IT officers, and 7 District Statistical Officers acting as zonal coordinators, have successfully completed an intensive training program.
The training, led by 10 facilitators and a master lead who served as a crucial resource for addressing any issues, ran from January 8th to January 12th, 2024.
Fieldwork for the IBES is set to begin on Monday, January 15th, and conclude on February 14th, 2024. To account for potential delays, enumerators have been given an additional two-week buffer beyond the initial one-month timeframe.
In an exclusive interview, Alhaji Andani Iddrisu Abdulai, the Savannah Regional Statistician, highlighted the expansive scope of this year’s survey. “The survey aims to conduct a comprehensive census of businesses across all sixteen regions of Ghana,” he stated.
Alhaji Abdulai further explained that the areas designated for the IBES have been strategically divided into three enumeration zones. This segmentation will allow for a systematic approach to counting and categorizing the diverse range of businesses in each region.
Unlike the 2013 survey, which focused primarily on permanent establishments, the 2024 IBES will be far more inclusive. “This year’s IBES will cover every business entity in the country, from hawkers and open markets to stalls and permanent market locations,” Alhaji Abdulai clarified. He emphasized that the survey’s goal is to include every category of business, ensuring a truly comprehensive overview of Ghana’s economic activities.
