On Thursday, January 20th, 2022, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibril, the Savannah Regional Minister, conducted an inspection of ongoing asphalt overlay works on roads in Damongo. According to Hon. Muhazu Jibril, these overlay works are part of President Akuffo Addo’s year of roads initiative, and Damongo is fortunate to be benefiting from it. The initiative will cover 15km of the Damongo inner roads and 4.1 km of the Fufulso – Damongo – Sawla highway.
The minister explained that the aim of the asphalt overlay initiative is to increase the lifespan of the roads by adding a 1.7cm thickness of asphalt to the already existing asphalt. This facelift to the roads will enhance the socio-economic growth and development of the residents in the area.
Hon. Muhazu Jibril also disclosed that work on newly constructed roads, which were abandoned by contractors due to cash constraints, would soon commence. The government has held cabinet meetings to discuss issues of payment and has committed to paying all outstanding arrears of certificates raised by such contractors to speed up work.
