Damongo, Ghana— Salisu Bi-awurbe Isifu Esq., the Savannah Regional Minister, has called on all six Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region to strictly adhere to the rule of law as they assume their roles as representatives of the President in their respective assemblies.
Accountability and Presidential Mandate
During a brief ceremony in Damongo on Friday, May 2, 2025, to officially hand over administrative duties, Minister Isifu reminded the newly appointed MDCEs that their appointments are not permanent. “The principles in these appointed positions are that the very day you were appointed, be ready to be disappointed the following day. Much as you can be appointed so shall you also be disappointed,” he cautioned.
He emphasized the need for the MDCEs to fully support President John Mahama’s agenda. “As such, we must do everything to support President John Mahama to achieve his objectives and succeed. Let’s speed up the processes to bring the needed development to our assemblies; there’s no room to complain,” the minister urged.
Discipline, Local Collaboration, and Legal Compliance
Minister Isifu also admonished the MDCEs to maintain discipline and engage closely with the executive committees of their local assemblies. Drawing on his legal background, he stressed the importance of operating within the confines of the law and the Constitution. “Seek legal guidance anytime, any day, so as to run smooth administration,” he advised, adding that assemblies are legal entities capable of suing and being sued.
Attendees and Recognition
The handing-over ceremony, held at the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council (SRCC), saw the presence of MDCEs from West Gonja, East Gonja, North Gonja, Central Gonja, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, and North East Gonja. The nominee for the Bole district is yet to be confirmed.
The regional minister concluded by commending the chiefs, people, Hon. Assembly Members, heads of departments, and all stakeholders for their ongoing support of President John Mahama’s administration.
