A delegation from UNICEF Ghana, led by Mr. Pathan Bhanu, Chief of Field Office, paid a courtesy call today on the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Bi-Awurobe. The visit served to congratulate the Minister on his recent appointment and to discuss UNICEF’s ongoing and future initiatives in the region.
Mr. Bhanu outlined the breadth of UNICEF’s commitment to the Savannah Region, emphasizing projects focused on improving health, education, and child protection.
UNICEF has made significant strides in bolstering healthcare infrastructure, particularly in newborn care. This includes establishing and equipping newborn care centers in Salaga with vital equipment such as Kangaroo Mother Care chairs, radiant warmers, and incubators, all part of a broader effort to enhance newborn survival rates and overall health outcomes.
In the realm of education and child welfare, UNICEF Ghana has partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and the Ghana Education Service. These collaborations are crucial in their collective efforts to strengthen child protection measures and combat child exploitation across the region.
Furthermore, UNICEF has played a key role in public health by supporting the construction of a Walk-In Cold Room. This facility is vital for safely storing vaccines for the entire Savannah Region, ensuring the continued delivery of essential immunization programs.
Regional Minister Hon. Salisu Bi-Awurobe expressed his sincere gratitude for UNICEF’s consistent support. He pledged a commitment to fostering an even stronger collaboration and partnership to accelerate the development of the Savannah Region.
